My initial reactions in my first four days

During these first days of the internship, I have majorly been setting up my remote machine, installing the different software I will use, and attending intern orientation sessions. Throughout the setting up period, I have received so much help from my software engineering mentor and other engineers on the Excel Team. My initial reaction towards the Excel team is that they are very supportive and enjoy curious interns who ask questions. As a new intern, I was encouraged to ask as many questions as possible which gave me so much motivation to ask my questions.

One crucial aspect of the communication during the orientation sessions is the language used around Microsoft which includes acronyms. Being able to confidently ask what a speaker means by a certain term they use, I have been able to completely understand their communication that I would have otherwise not understood without understanding the acronym. Additionally, receiving prompt answers to questions has been very helpful throughout the software installation phase because I was confident that regardless of the time I asked a question, my mentor or manager would answer my questions. The installation has been a lot smoother considering the fact that we are working fully remote.

On the other hand, there has been a lot of information and a multitude of resources offered during the different orientation sessions which has been overwhelming. This information is completely new to me, and I have not found enough time around the internship programming to look through some of the resources offered. I guess this is the difference between a college course and an internship. I am finding myself having to manage my time well around the other intern programs to review some technical and non-technical resources provided. Moving forward with my internship, I plan to utilize my early morning session, before the meetings, to look through these resources.
